Shirley Jean Bierbaum, 75, passed away at 10:20 am Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at Blu Fountain Manor Nursing Home in Godfrey with her family by her side.
She was born on January 7, 1936 in Shawneetown, IL, the daughter of Paul & Elizabeth (Walters) Whipple.
She married Wilbur “Smokey” Bierbaum on July 3, 1960 in Shawneetown, IL. He preceded her in death on February 7, 2011.
Shirley and her husband owned and operated Bierbaum Steel for 34 years and she previously worked for Owens Illinois Glass Manufacturing. She especially enjoyed traveling and going on Shop-until-you-drop. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, and liked to crochet and knit. She also loved crossword puzzles and enjoyed soap operas.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Cindy & Jim Mareing of Godfrey; a granddaughter, Annie Muehlheausler of Godfrey and her fiancé, Brooke Moody of Wood River; a brother and sister-in-law, Ed & Anita Whipple of Eldorado, IL; her best friend, Jackie Wittman of Godfrey, and her pet companion Chloe.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Whipple.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Thursday, May 26, 2011 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey where funeral services will be held at 10:30 am Friday, May 27, 2011 with Rev. Bruce Baumberger officiating.
Burial will follow at Valhalla Memorial Park Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Anthony’s Hospice.
