Shirley Charlene Hendricks, 78, passed away at 8:29 am Thursday, January 26, 2012 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Alton.
She was born on October 3, 1933 in Alton, IL, the daughter of Clarence L. and Marjorie M. (Davis) Foster.
She married Edward Dale McAninch on June 28, 1948 in Alton, of Bethalto. He survives. Later she married Thomas “Tom” D. Hendricks on November 8, 1980 in Bethalto. He passed away on January 14, 2011.
Shirley was a homemaker most of her life. She attended Cornerstone Assembly of God Church. She enjoyed gardening, playing the piano and organ, music, dancing and writing poems. She worked hard all her life and she loved taking care of people for over 60 years.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Robert McAninch of Godfrey and Mark and Rhonda McAninch of Bethalto; two stepsons and a spouse, David Hendricks of St. Louis, MO and Paul and Elizabeth Hendricks of Bethalto; a stepdaughter, Lisa Sullins of St. Louis, MO; a grandson, Christopher McAninch; three step grandchildren, Kylie, Alexis and Abigail Hendricks; two sisters, Sandra Cordero of Sun City, AZ and Sharon Schaefer of Staunton; four brothers, Ed Kastner, Bill Kastner, John Kastner and Tom Kastner and her nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Laura Gill.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, January 30, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 1pm Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at the funeral home with Pastor Phil Schneider officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
