Shirley Ann Ramsay, 73, died at 6:30 a.m., Friday, September 2, 2011 at her home under the care of her family and Blessing Hospice.
She was born in Cottage Hills on Feb. 19, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Vernon "Bud" and Frances (Herron) Cason.
Shirley was a graduate of Civic Memorial High School in Bethalto, and married Ona "Onie" Ramsay Jr. on Sept. 12, 1965 in Winter Haven, California. They made California their home for many years where she was employed as an assistant contract administrator for Upjohn Health Care Services in San Diego, Ca. retiring in 1985 due to health concerns.
They relocated to Otterville in 1990, and she and Onie immediately became involved in their community. She was instrumental in the formation of the Otterville Kids Club, and owned and operated alongside her husband, F.O.G.S. (Friendly Otterville Grocery Store) for many years until poor health required them to close in Feb.of 2010.
Surviving are her husband, Ona "Onie" Ramsay Jr. of Otterville; five children & their spouses, Frances & Greg Cross of Godfrey, Clyde R. & Tammy Ramsay of Otterville, Vicki of California, Virginia Manson of Pryor, Ok., and Ona "Bud" & Andrea Ramsay of Carrollton; numerous grandchildren; and a sister, Eva Taylor of Cottage Hills.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Robert Cason & Dennis Cason; and a step brother, Larry Jellison.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m.Monday at the Fieldon Baptist Church in Fieldon where she was a member. Rev. Bo Schultz will officiate.
Burial at the Noble Cemetery in Otterville will take place at a later date.
In lieu of any flowers or plants, memorials may be given to the Ramsay family in care of the funeral home
