Sarah “Marie” Muenstermann, 81, entered into heaven peacefully with her family, minister and friends by her side at 6:03 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born at home in Delhi, Ill. on September 27, 1929, the daughter of Paul and Mary (Nichols) Kokos. She was married to Charles L. Muenstermann on June 25, 1947 in Staunton. He preceded her in death Dec. 21, 1999.
Early in her life she was employed at the Alton Glass Works. After marriage she became a homemaker where she spent the next several years raising her 3 children. In the winter of her life she served as bus monitor for approximately 4 years for the Alton School District. She attended Cornerstone Assembly of god in Bethalto when her health permitted.
She was a loving mother and grandmother and is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Bruce Avants of Godfrey; two sons and daughters-in-law, Butch and Sose Muenstermann of Bettendorf, Ia. and Bruce and Leanne Muenstermann of Brighton; four grandsons, Mike Muenstermann of Bettendorf, Mark Muenstermann of Joy Circello of Davenport, Ia., Caleb and Cade Muenstermann of Brighton; one great grandson, Nolan Muenstermann of Davenport; and a second great grandchild is on the way. She was also much loved by the family pet, Callie, who liked to give her lots of kisses.
In addition to her children, she was dearly loved by her sister-in-law, Mary Bruce of Indianapolis, Ind., her caregiver and dear friend Regina Sackett, and many other sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband Charles, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Kenneth; a sister Cornelia “Dolly” Christopher; and a sister, Helen Reed.
Visitation will be 4-8 p.m. Friday, Apr. 22 at Cornerstone Assembly of God in Bethalto, where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Apr. 23.
