Sandra Lombardo

Alton |

With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we announce the passing of Sandra "Sandy" Rose Lombardo, 76, of Alton, IL, who left us peacefully on February 15, 2025, at Jerseyville Manor. Born on August 17, 1948, in Alton, Sandy was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph B. and Rava Nell (Rose) Lombardo.

Sandy dedicated her career to Information Technology with 49 years of service to the Sisters at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton. She was a devoted member of St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey and previously a member of St. Matthew’s Catholic Church in Alton, where her faith was a cornerstone of her life.  Sandy attended grade school at St  Matthew’s and was a 1966 graduate of Marquette Catholic High School where she formed lifelong friendships.  She furthered her education at SIU Edwardsville.

A woman of impeccable style, Sandy was always polished and put together-her love for shopping was evident in her perfectly coordinated outfits, shoes, purses, and jewelry. She equally had a passion for sports, especially cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals and fiercely supporting Dale Earnhardt. Whether it was NASCAR, the Indy 500, or Formula 1, she was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable racing fan.

But above all else, Sandy’s greatest joy was her family, especially her nieces and nephews, who lovingly called her "Aunt Sas." She never missed a moment of their lives-from school events and sports games to graduations and celebrations. She was their biggest cheerleader and a constant, loving presence, always offering encouragement and unwavering support.

Sandy’s dedication extended far beyond her immediate family. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, colleague, and friend with a loving and generous heart and sense of humor.

She is deeply missed by her surviving sister and brother-in-law, Felecia & Charles Huebener of Brighton; her brother and sister-in-law, Joe & Lori Lombardo of Brighton; her adored nieces and nephews, Emily Huebener, Ben and Lacy Huebener, Lauren Lombardo (deceased), Nick Lombardo, Lindsey (Mike) Sabatino, and Abby Lombardo; and her treasured great-nieces, Mila Rose Huebener and Ellee Jo Sabatino, who brought her so much joy.

Family and friends are invited to honor Sandy’s life at a visitation on Saturday, February 22, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 10:15 AM at St. Ambrose Community Center, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.  The Mass will be live streamed on the St. Ambrose Church website.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Masses, St. Ambrose Catholic Church or School, or Marquette Catholic High School, in honor of Sandy’s faith and devotion to her church and community.

The family wishes to sincerely thank the caregivers and staff at Jerseyville Manor for the loving care provided to Sandy during the last months of her life.
