Samuel H. Rhea, 69, passed away at 10:47 a.m. on Monday, January 28, 2025, in the emergency room at Alton Memorial Hospital.
He was born on May 5, 1955, in Wood River, the son of the late Daniel and Veneta (Harrod) Rhea. He married the former Roberta Smith on October 17, 2000, in Alton, and she survives.
Other survivors include a step daughter: Susan King of Wood River, two step sons and their spouses: Lee and Mia O’Daniell of St. Charles, Missouri, Kerry and Joy O’Daniell of East Alton, ten step grandchildren, nine step great grandchildren, two sisters: Rise Isom of Wood River, Rosemary Rhea of Roxana, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by step daughter: Amy Garner, and a brother: Stephen Rhea.
Sam was employed as a mill inspector at Laclede Steel prior to going to work as a gate keeper at Alton Steel. Sam was known for being a stand-up and dependable man that everyone could count on. Sam was an avid collector who loved nature and gardening.
In celebration of his life, private services were held on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.
