Sally Pickering
Collinsville |

Sally Mae Pickering of Collinsville, IL, passed away at age 89 on Friday, January 17, 2025. She was born March 21 — the first day of Spring — in Detroit, MI, in 1935. Her family soon moved to her true hometown of Belleville, IL. She attended St. Mary’s grade school and while attending Belleville Township High School met Glendle Pickering. They married on November 28, 1953, and spent more than 50 years together.
The Pickering family first settled in Caseyville, IL, then relocated to Collinsville, IL, their home for the rest of their lives. Once their four children were in school, she began her career at UMB Bank, from her first job as a teller through her retirement as a Branch Manager.
Sally was an active member of St. John’s United Church of Christ and made close friendships in her card club that played together for over 50 years. She was an avid reader, a tennis player, and enjoyed outdoor activities including walking and planting flowers. Family was her highest priority; she was always there when needed, organizing family gatherings and never missing a celebration or graduation.
Sally was predeceased by her parents, Linda and Homer Muren; her in-laws, Alvin and Mary Pickering; and her brothers Bob and Neal and sisters Nancy Schmidt and Betty Dunn.
Sally is survived by her brother Gary (Gail) Muren; children Scott (Kathie) Pickering of Marion, IL; Beth (Craig Meier) Coulter of Collinsville; Joe (Michelle) Pickering of Peachtree City, GA; and Tim (Deanna) Pickering of Rio Verde, AZ; grandchildren Justin (Carrie) Pickering and sons Connor and Nolen; Joe (Libby) Davidson and their daughter Rory; Kelli (Brett) Bocian, daughter Lily, and son Leo on the way; Kacie (Addison Ligon) Coulter; Corrie (Vivien) Pickering; and Cole Pickering; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family welcomes your memories of her. Please join us for a memorial visitation from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and a memorial service immediately following on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Barry Wilson Funeral Home in Maryville. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Collinsville, IL.
