Ruth M. (Bushnell) Adcock, 94, of Jerseyville and formerly of Carrollton, died on Feb. 11, 2023, at 3:15 A.M. at Jerseyville Hospital.
Born on August 6, 1928, in Roodhouse, IL, she was the second child of the late Harry and Ida (Fearneyhough) Lemon Bushnell. On Dec. 14, 1947, she married Lawrence Adcock in Eldred and he preceded her in death in 2006 after 58 years of marriage.
Surviving are a son: Dennis (Thea) Adcock of Eldred, a daughter Marilyn (Richard) Cordes of Carrollton, four grandchildren: John (Cindy) Adcock, Jackie (Pat Young) Adcock, Terry (Michelle) Cordes, Susan (Scott) Wray and five great-grandchildren: Andrew Adcock, Dagan and Evan Cordes, Cole, and Emily Wray and a sister: Doris (William) DeShasier and a special niece: Earlene Ontis. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law: Randall Riggs, a daughter-in-law: Rebecca Adcock, a great-granddaughter: Kearstin Adcock, a sister: Audrey Ontis, a brother Curtis Bushnell, half-sisters: Pauline Lemon, and Virginia Whitlock, Lucille King, twin half brothers: Murl and Earl Bushnell and special nieces: Darlene (King) Harding and Lois (Whitlock) Andrews.
Ruth attended Christian Grove Country School, Eldred High School, and East St. Louis High School. She graduated from Hadley Technical High School in St. Louis, MO in June of 1947.
She had been employed as a secretary in St. Louis and also worked at the dress factory in White Hall. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton and was a devoted Christian that loved her family deeply. She lovingly cared for her husband for the last 17 years of his life after he suffered a severe stroke.
She enjoyed quilting, cooking, and baking, especially angel food cakes and cinnamon rolls. She loved attending family reunions, family genealogy, and visiting on the phone.
Visitation will be from 4-7 pm on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2023, at the Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton. Visitation will continue on Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2023, from 10-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Carrollton. Services will follow immediately after that event. Burial will be in Eldred Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Eldred following the services. Memorials may be made to the Veterans Freedom Walk project. Airsman-Hires Funeral Home in Carrollton is in charge of arrangements.
