Ruth L. Kienstra, 89, died at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, February 6, 2011 at #1 McKnight Place in Ladue, MO.
Born July 17, 1921 in Alton, she was the daughter of Louis and Anna (Hackethal) Hoehn. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton.
On August 13, 1941 in Mitchell, IL, she married Wilbur Kienstra. He survives. Also surviving is a daughter, Ann Rita Cooper and her husband Tim of Alton, two sons, Chris Kienstra of Alton and Dr. Randy Kienstra and his wife Jan of Brays Island, SC, seven grandchildren; Dr. Matthew Kienstra and wife Kristie, Christopher McNeill and wife Alisa, Dr. Andy Kienstra and wife Kirsten, Carrie O’Brien and husband Chris, Ryan Munro and wife Tory, Cam Pope and husband Jason and Mady Kienstra, 13 great grandchildren, one sister, Mildred Sweat of Chicago and two nieces, Alyson MacCabe and Laurie Leydig.
Ruth fought a brave battle over the final nine months of her life. She was the picture of poise, grace and beauty throughout her ordeal, bringing smiles and cheer to family and friends alike, despite her illness. It is the memory of her always upbeat approach to life and that she saw the good in everything and everyone for which Ruth will be remembered.
A private family mass will be at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Alton.
Memorials may be made to the 5A’s Animal Shelter or to Marquette Catholic High School.
