Ruth E. Cotter, 92, died at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011 at her home. Born July 28, 1918 in Dubuque, Iowa, she was the daughter of Arthur L. and Effie M. (Smith) Mutschler. She worked for Savannah Illinois Ordinance Depot and Beverly Farm in Godfrey. She was a member of SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton where she was a member of the alter Society. She was a member of the Daughter’s of Isabelle and volunteered to deliver Meal on Wheels for 10 years. On July 3, 1943 in Dubuque, Iowa, she married Henry L. Cotter and he preceded her in death on September 16, 2008.
Surviving are two daughters, Susan Cotter of Alton, and Elizabeth Cotter Keister of Chesapeake, VA, one son, Arthur L. Cotter and his wife Pam of Godfrey, seven grandchildren, Todd Link and his wife Ali, Scott Link, Molly and Katie Keister, Angie Pekarik and her husband Shaun, Adam Cotter and his wife Sarah, and Kevin Cotter, eight great grandchildren, Tucker, Griffin, Delaney, Teagan, Trent, Tristan, Kaleigh and Alexis. She was preceded in death by two brothers, James Arthur Mutschler and Frederick Mutschler, and one sister, Alice Louis.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until Mass of Christian burial at 11:00 a.m. Monday at SS Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to the Salvation Army.
