Ruth A. Wimp, 91, passed away at 1:11 am Monday February 4, 2013 at Alton Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Fayetteville, AK the daughter of the late Russell and Pauline (Moores) Austin.
She married Larry L. Wimp on August 23, 1944 in Jonesboro, AR. He preceded her in death in 1993.
Ruth has been in the Alton area for 8 years, she was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church of Alton, prior she was a member of the 1st Presbyterian Church in Carterville, IL.
Ruth was widely known in Carterville for her charity work, teaching Sunday School, designing wedding dresses, cakes and flower arrangements.
Ruth is survived by two daughters: Carol and her spouse Alan Adams of Clark Range, TN, and Ruth Anne Wimp of Alton, IL, two grandchildren: Brandy O’Connell and Michael Wilkerson, three great grandchildren: Shane Caudill, Abbigale and Brailen O’Connell, one brother: Hayden and his spouse Frances Austin of San Antonio, TX.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, step-mother: Margaret Henderson Austin, a brother: Allen Austin, and a step-brother: Robert Austin.
Visitation will be from 3pm till time of service at 4:30pm, Thursday, February 7. 2013 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Alton with the Rev David Crowley officiating.
Visitation will continue from 10 am till time of 2nd service at 11 am Saturday, February 9, 2013 at the 1st Presbyterian Church in Carterville with the Rev. Mel Bower officiating.
Burial will follow at the Carterville Cemetery in Carterville, IL.
