Russell L. Schaaf, 72, passed away at 12:17 a.m. Sunday, April 17, 2011 at Robings Manor in Brighton.
Born May 24, 1938 in Jerseyville, he was a son of Julius Schaaf and Alice (Ford) Schaaf Varble.
His wife, the former Margaret Seaburn preceded him in death Feb. 4, 2001.
He worked as a truck driver for his son at Michael Schaaf Trucking and also had driven for Hoops Trucking. Mr. Schaaf was a Shipboard boilerman fireman in the U.S. Navy from 1955-1957.
He is survived by three daughters, Gail (Roger) Ambrose of Kokomo, Ind., Lisa (Daniel) Sackmann of Jerseyville, and Sonya Smith of South Roxana; three sons, David (Carol) Schaaf of St. Peters, Mo., Russell (Lisa) Schaaf, Jr. of Toledo, Oh., and Michael (Kristi) Schaaf of Findlay, Oh.; his grandchildren, Allison Cox, Debra, Erin and Brittany Sackmann, Jonathon Schaaf, Matthew Seets, Christopher and Kassandra Smith, Jessica, Jacob, Joshua, David, Cole and Grace Schaaf; two sisters, Judy (Jerry) Roth of Fieldon and Caroline (Jeff) Barnett of Mt. Sterling, Ill.; five brothers, Donald (Barb) Schaaf and Charlie (Edna) Schaaf, all of Fieldon, William (Alice) Schaaf and Robert (Carolyn) Schaaf, all of Jerseyville, and James (Marcia) Schaaf of Griggsville, Ill.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Jennifer Schaaf.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, Apr. 20 at Paynic Home for Funerals in East Alton, where Pastor Rob Ellard will officiate services at 10 a.m. Thursday, Apr. 21. Alton VFW Post #1308 will perform military rites at the funeral home after the funeral service.
Committal services will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Apr. 22 at Wood County Memory Garden in Bowling Green, Ohio.
Memorials may be given to the charity of one’s choice.
