Roy Landon

Roy Raymond Landon Jr., 85, died at 8:50 a.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at his residence.He was born in Otter Creek Township, Jersey County, Il on April 15, 1926, the son of the late Roy Raymond & Mildred (White) Landon Sr.Roy has farmed his entire life in Otter Creek, and also had been employed for many years as a carpenter through Carpenters Local 377 in Belleville.  He loved the farm, as well as gardening, and enjoyed flying radio controlled airplanes with his son, Rick.He married the former Roberta Ann Ling on May 16, 1948, and was the first couple married at the Union Forest Church in rural Jerseyville.Surviving are his wife; a daughter,  Cynthia Hearn, and her companion, Doug Saunders of Florissant, Mo.; a son & daughter in law, Richard & JoDonna Landon of Jerseyville; a special son in law, and his wife, Rusty & Debi Akers of Jerseyville; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tara & Mickey Eberlin of Godfrey, Sara & Patrick Bruder of Granite City, Cari & Aaron Frye of Jerseyville, and Joseph Landon of Jerseyville; one great grandson, Landon Eberlin; a sister, Vera Bare of Tuscon, Az. and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Christina Faye Akers on Nov. 19, 2001; and a sister, Oma M. Smith.Visitation will be from 11 a.m., Thursday until time of funeral services at 1 p.m. at the Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.Private burial will take place at the White Cemetery in rural Jersey County.Memorials may be given to the Carroll Roberson Ministries.
