Rev. Roy F. Gibbs slipped into the presence of his Lord and Savior on January, 13, 2025. He was born May 9, 1934 to Roy Thomas and Irene (Hendrickson) Gibbs of Valley Park, MO. He was the oldest of 7 children. He had 5 brothers and 1 sister. He accepted the Lord as His Savior at age 12 while attending Daily Vacation Bible School and shortly after, felt called into the ministry.

Following his graduation from Valley Park High School in Valley Park, MO, he entered the Midwest Bible & Missionary Institute in St. Louis, MO where he studied for the Gospel ministry. Upon graduation, Rev Gibbs began his full-time ministry as pastor. He served as Senior Pastor for 45 years. During this time, he served in four churches. First Baptist Church, Grafton, IL, First Baptist Church, Roxana, IL, First Baptist Church, La Salle, IL, Berea Baptist Church, Berea, OH, and in 1977, Rev Gibbs returned to First Baptist Church in Roxana and continued in full time ministry until his retirement in 2001. On August 5, 1955 he married Shirley Pemberton of Crescent MO.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his four children, Diane Folkmann (Walter) of Brook Park, OH, Mark Gibbs (Joey) of Godfrey, IL, Kathy Cotter of Godfrey, IL and Stephen Gibbs (Ida) of Lehigh Acres, FL. He was also loved by his 14 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.

In addition to his family, he is survived by one brother Darryl Gibbs (Sharon) of Titusville, FL and sister Martha (Elmer) Crow of Hampton, VA along with sisters-in-law Marilyn Gibbs of St. Peters, MO and Nancy Gibbs of Montgomery City, MO.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Cecil, Robert, David and Tom Gibbs.

Viewing will be held on Friday January 17, 2025 at Marks Mortuary in Wood River, IL from 3-6 p.m. Funeral service will be held at Marks Mortuary beginning at 11 a.m. on January 18, 2025. A burial service will follow at Wanda Cemetery in South Roxana, IL where Rev Gibbs will reach his final resting place.

Rev Andre Dobson of Calvary Baptist Church and Glen Dively of First Baptist Church of Roxana will be officiating.

While his earthly ministry is concluded, the Scripture states, "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord, they rest from their labors and their works do follow them." (Revelations 14:13)
