Rose Sorbie Secor passed away Monday, November 15, 2010 at Blu-fountain Manor after a long illness. She was 85. Born January 1, 1925 in Alton, she was the daughter of Ivan and Bosica Perica. She was active in the Godfrey Women’s Club, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and several bridge clubs. She also participated in Croation Clubs and activities. She was a long time supporter of Democratic politics and worked in many campaigns and voting polls.
She married Thomas Sorbie Sr. on July 14, 1944. He preceded her in death. She later married Dee Secor. He preceded her in death. Surviving is a daughter, Julie Ashlock and husband James of Godfrey, a son, Thomas Sorbie Jr. and wife Debra of Wilson, NC, eight grandchildren and spouses, James and Alisa Ashlock, Jill and Lee Scheele, Megan and Chad Stevenson, Adrienne and David Gordon, Natalie and Henry Colon, Danielle and Anthony Carter, Bobby and Denise Mohon and Tammy Gorrie, three step grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and her long time companion, Leo Balarcheck. She was preceded in death by her husbands, a daughter, Sharon Mohon, a step son, Douglas Sorbie, eight brothers and sisters, Mary, John, Lela, Nick, Joe, Louie, Pete and Julia.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Alton. Father David Boase will officiate.
Burial will be at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.
Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
