Ronald Abenroth

Ronald Gene Abenroth, 78, of East Peoria and formerly of Granite City, Illinois passed away at O.S.F. St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria at 1:45 a.m. on Sunday, February 7, 2021.

He was born July 2, 1942 in Granite City, a son of the late Glenn C. and Mignon P. (Glueck) Abenroth.

He married Norma Jean Abenroth on July 10, 1965 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Granite City and she passed away on January 31, 2021.

Ron worked as an insurance agent for John Hancock and as a car salesman at Four Flags Auto Sales before starting his own car lot, Abbey’s Auto Sales in Granite City. He was a consistent leader in sales in both insurance and vehicles.

Ron attended St. John United Church of Christ while living in Granite City, and, more recently, Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton. He enjoyed anything to do with cars and sales, annual family trips to Cadillac, Michigan, and watching his grandchildren play whatever sport was in season.

Ron is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Grant and Erica Abenroth of Edwards, Illinois; four grandchildren, Caroline, Jacob, Anna and John Abenroth; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Shirley and Ed Creamer of California and Barb Schmedake of Granite City; a sister-in-law, Juanita James of Glen Carbon; her adored nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends.

In addition to his parents and wife, was preceded in death by a daughter, Amy Abenroth; a sister and brother-in-law, Jack and Judy Dyer and three brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law, James Schmedake, Milton Kaseberg and Beatrice and Milton James.

In celebration of his life, a visitation will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2606 Washington Avenue in Granite City on Thursday, February 11, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until time of a Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Steve Thompson as celebrant..

Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery on Nameoki Road in Granite City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital, 3800 Park Avenue, St. Louis, MO 63110 and may be accepted online at Glennon.org or accepted at the funeral home. Irwin Chapel of Granite City in charge of arrangements. www.irwinchapel.com
