Ron Webb, 71, passed away on October 16, 2014 at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born October 15, 1943 in Alton to Lance and Elaine (Hlastan) Webb.
Ron attended St. Mary’s School and Marquette High School in Alton. He received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in elementary education from SIUE in 1967 and 1976. He taught thirty seven years in the Alton School District. Twenty–two of those years were spent teaching third and fifth grade gifted students in the gifted program. He also taught two years at St. Ambrose School in Godfrey.
In 1996 he was awarded Emerson Electric Companies Excellence in Teaching Award. In 1999 he was awarded the state of Illinois’ State Board of Education Those Who Excel Award of Meritorious Service.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Alton for fifty-nine years where he served as lector, Eucharistic Minister, Server, and Money Counter. He was a member of the Godfrey Knights of Columbus.
Ron also enjoyed cooking, reading and traveling.
He is survived by friends and a cousin.
Cremation rites will be accorded.
Visitation will be from 4 pm until time of Memorial Mass at 5 pm Monday, October 20, 2014 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey with Fr. Steve Pohlman as celebrant.
Inurnment will be at 10 am on Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Alton.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: St. Ambrose Catholic Church or Mass Intentions.
