Ron Tanner

Alton |

Ron Tanner, 69, transitioned to his next life surrounded by his family on Thursday, 12/8/22. He was born 8/18/53 in Alton, IL to William and Mary (Mandrell) Tanner.
Ron married Mary Stifel on 12/27/75 in Alton, and she survives.

Ron earned a BS from SIUE and spent much of his early career in newspaper advertising at the Post-Dispatch and other Midwest papers. The rest of his career he focused on small business development and marketing, building many friendships in the Riverbend. He was a passionate booster for our area and was always full of big ideas to make it better.

Ron loved golf, camping, exploring our beautiful country, the Cardinals and the Blues. His special gift in life was his beautiful baritone voice, which he shared through weddings, funerals, the theater, and the wonderful choirs at St. Ambrose and St. Peter & Paul.

He loved and was loved by a wonderful extended family and many friends. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mary E. Tanner, and step-father Glen Nicholson; three children, Ellen Tanner (Kevin Bowman), Alex Tanner (Melanie Miller), and Riley Tanner (Ashley Baugh); one grandchild, Della Tanner; and five bonus grandchildren, Olivia Miller, Maya Miller, Alex Bowman, Annabelle Bowman, and Lane Bowman; his sister, Cheri Wigger (Bob) of Des Moines, IA; and a special uncle, Jack Tanner of Arizona.

Ron was preceded in death by his father. Ron's body was donated to science in hopes that a cure may someday be found for progressive neurological disease.

Thank you to the many therapists and caregivers who helped Ron the last four years.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to North Alton-Godfrey Business Council.
A memorial gathering is planned for January 14, 2023, at the Post Commons from 4-6 pm. There will be singing and storytelling, two of Ron's favorite pastimes.
