Roger J. Batson, 71, passed away Sunday, October 16, 2011 at his home. Born April 16, 1940 in Granite City, he was a son of Charles and Marguerite (Wachter) Batson.
The U.S. Army veteran retired in 2002 from Granite City Steel as an operator in coal handling.
He is survived by two sons, Joe Batson of East Alton and Patrick( Jeanne) Batson of Belleville; two granddaughters and a grandson; a brother, Larry Batson of Alton; three sisters, Patricia (Harold) Sly of East Alton, Suzanne Batson of Chicago, and Charlene (Jerry)Becker of East Alton; a stepdaughter, Linda Heinz of Bethalto; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, James Batson and his twin brother Robert Batson; and a stepson, James Heinz.
Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 18 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, with a prayer service at 4 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Wood River, with Father James Flach as Celebrant. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
