Rodney F. “Rod” Carroll, 68, of Alton, Illinois passed away unexpectedly at 4:55 a.m. on Sunday, January 24, 2021 at his home. He was born October 10, 1952 in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of the late Floyd Carroll and the late Dorothy (Sartors) Simora.
He married Gary D. Durbin II on December 18, 2015 at their home in Alton. They celebrated the date of January 10, 2003 as their anniversary and were able to enjoy 18 years of a life together shared with many great memories with their family and friends. He was a self-employed flooring installer and general contractor. Rod was a talented jack of all trades and could build and remodel any job. He was always creating new projects around the house and in the yard. He enjoyed his plants and flowers, enjoyed his many travels through the years and loved having friends over for a get-together. He had the biggest heart, always willing to help others and was always the life of the party.
In addition to his beloved husband, he is survived by three sons, Nathan Carroll of Indiana, Scott Carroll of Tennessee and Chris (Kristy) Carroll of Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Christian, Shawn, Nathan, Kaleb, Lincoln, Phoenix and London; two sisters, Helen (Tom) Matheny of St. Louis and Janie (Jim) Riggs of Virginia; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Gary and Mary Durbin of Litchfield; three sisters-in-law, Donna Durbin of Litchfield, Connie Brown of Litchfield and Debbie (Randy) Weller of Litchfield; his precious Yorkie, Wolfey; many nieces; nephews; other extended family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Shawn Carroll and his angel Shih Tzu, Sammy.
In celebration of his life a visitation will be held at Gent Funeral Home, 2409 State Street in Alton on Friday, January 29, 2021 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Mike Rayson officiating.
