Rodger William Penning, 85, died at 10:47 a.m. on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at Eunice Smith Home in Alton. He was born May 26, 1927 in Alton the son of Arthur A. “Doc” and Augusta L. (Handler) Penning. He served in the U.S. Army and attended St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey. He retired in 1985 as a letter carrier with the U.S. Post Office.
On April 24, 1954 he married Mary T. Beiser and she survives.
Also surviving are three daughters; Helen Ann Fowler and her husband David of Ottawa, IL, Martha Smith and her husband Darrell of Godfrey and Mary Boulds and her husband David of Alton, two sons; Joseph Penning and his wife Janis of Dale City, VA and Paul Penning and his wife Debbie of Brighton, twelve grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother; John A. Penning.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. -11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2012 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Godfrey where a mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. With Father Steve Pohlman officiating. Interment will be private.
