Roberta J. Schroeder, 89, died at 12:45 a.m. Thursday, December 6, 2012 at the Fountains IV in Godfrey. Born July 4, 1923 in Godfrey, she was the daughter of Frank and Hattie (Ebbeler) Roberts. She was a longtime member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. During WWII she worked for the Olin Corporation and later worked in the cafeteria at the Fosterburg grade school. She was a wonderful homemaker, mother, and cook. In 1942 she married Lester Schroeder in Brighton. He preceded her in death on May 16, 1997. Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Jane and Reverend Dr. Charles Guerreno of Saginaw, MI, and Sally and Ken Stubbe of Prescott Valley, AZ, three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Janell Schroeder of Round Rock, TX, Donald and Beth Schroeder of Alton, and Dale and Mary Schroeder of Aurora, CO, eleven grandchildren, Nichole, Tracy, Nathan, Nichole, Adam, John, Jared, Brian, Marcia, Carrie, and Jamie, and eight great grandchildren. Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her twin brother Robert and brothers, Lester, Leland, Harold, and Marvin, and eight sisters, including twins Ruby and Ruth, and Faye and Fern, and Eileen, Verna, Iva, and Dorothy. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 10, 2012 at the Evangelical United Church of Christ in Godfrey. Burial will be at Brighton City Cemetery. Reverend Jerry MeCaskey will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Fountains IV in Godfrey. Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements.
