Robert W. Charni, age 91, of Golden Eagle, IL died December 9, 2011 at Rosewood Care Center, Alton, IL Born May 21, 1920 in Brookville, IN, he was the son of the late Fred and Dorothy (Pippin) Charni. He retired in July, 1967, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Air Force, having served during World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam conflict. Following his Air Force retirement, he was employed as a civil engineer with the Florida Department of Transportation, retiring in 1985. He was a graduate of Purdue University, IN and a 70 year member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He married Lila Roden of Cullman, AL in 1944. She preceded him in death in 1991. Also preceding him in death were his companion, Beth W. Fox of Golden Eagle, IL in 2004 and his brother Fred N. Charni of Brookville, IN. He is survived by a niece, Donna Slotnick and nephew, Keith (Marlene) Roden, all of North Carolina and great nieces and nephews. Also friends Mark and Gena (Fox) Hatch of Batchtown, IL Following cremation, his interment and memorial service will be at Lauderdale Memorial Park, Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
