Robert L. Hopper, 73, passed away at 1:20pm on Saturday, June 4, 2016, at Robings Manor in Brighton. He was born on August 5, 1942, in Meadowbrook, the son of the late Rev. Harvey E. and Eula M. (Jones) Hopper. He married the former Glenna Smith Radae on April 9, 1998, in Carlinville, and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and a son in law: Jennifer Hopper of Atlanta, Georgia, Rachel and Nick Hampson of Atlanta, Georgia, a grandson: Ethan Hampson, one step – son and his wife: Shaun and Cassie Radae, their son: Logan Radae, two sisters and brothers in law: Joyce and Bill McCracken of Staunton, Carol and Walt Haase of Staunton and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends.
Bob attended Worden High School graduating in 1960. He served in the United States Army from August of 1960 to November of 1963 where he earned the rank of SIP 4. His tour of duty included the United States, Europe, and Zweibrucken, Germany. After the military, Bob attended a Baptist College in Mississippi where he met and married Brenda Faye Matlock on December 18, 1964. Bob graduated from Georgia State University on June 18, 1983, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. He was a member of the Southern Baptist Church. He retired as a Business Office Manager in one of the Nashville, Tennessee Hospitals in 2004. He enjoyed reading, listening to books of tape, walking his dogs, and taking them for rides.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son: Robert Hopper, Jr. and a brother: John Hopper.
In accordance with his wishes, cremation rites will be accorded. Memorial services will be held at 11am on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at New Hope Baptist Church in Worden. Pastor John Heater III will officiate. Full military rites will be accorded by the Ritual Team of the American Legion Post 564.
