Robert James Parker, 83, died at 11:40 a.m. Friday, December 3, 2010.
Born March 8, 1927 in Godfrey, he was the son of George Herbert Parker and Theresa Ann (Whalen) Parker. He spent 10 years working for Standard Oil Company before co-owning and operating Parker Asphalt Co. for 30 years in Alton. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. He served in the army from 1946-1949. He loved to dance and spend time with his friends and family.
He is survived by three sons, Roy Parker of Indian Rocks Beach, FL, Larry Parker and Bobby Joe Parker, both of Alton, all sons of Maria Stiles; a daughter-in-law, Niki Parker; seven grandchildren, Jennifer Fish and her husband, Brandon, Amy Stephan, Aaron Parker, Jeff Parker, Chris Parker, all of Alton, Bobby Parker of St. Louis, MO, Megan Moser and her husband, Mark, of Orlando, FL; his loving Baker family Ronald L. and Donna Baker of Rosewood Heights, Joyce and Dave Canterbury of Lakewood, CO and Patty and Darwin Mowery of Chandler, AZ; four great grand-children, Laycee Fish, Jack Stephan, Caroline Stephan, Lyla Fish; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Lee Parker; his loving companion of 35 years, Lorene Baker and her son, Donald Baker; three sisters, Genevieve Parker, Virginia Drew and Agnes Huber; and two brothers John Parker and Bill Parker.
Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service at 12:00 noon Friday, December 10, 2010 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton.
Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey with full military honors by the VFW Post 1308. Father Jim Walther will officiate.
A reception will follow burial at the VFW Post 1308 of Alton.
