Robert J. "Bob" Johnson, 74, passed away at 3:15 am Thursday August 19, 2010 at home with his family by his side.

He was born on December 3, 1935 in St. Louis, MO the son of Robert W. & Esther (Mook) Johnson.

He married Mary Lou McClintock on June 25, 1955 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton. She survives.

He owned and operated Johnson’s Corner and was a co-owner of Runway Lounge and also a member of the Madison County Tavern Owners Association.

He was a member of Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton, Knights of Columbus (4th degree) in Alton, Alton Eagles Lodge 254, Alton Wood River Sportsman’s Club, Optimist Board, a board member of Reliance Bank, Crisis Food Center, a Life Master in Bridge. He was an avid lover of Las Vegas & the Argosy. He was a board member of Senior Services Plus and Foster Grandparents Program.

In addition to his wife Mary Lou Johnson, he is also survived by five daughters and sons-in-law, Jeanne & Chris Peipert of Godfrey, Jacqueline & Mark Cain of Godfrey, Judy & Chris Durr of Alton, Jane & Jim Strebel of Godfrey, and Julie & Ethan Basler of Godfrey; one son and daughter-in-law, Jimmie & Cathy Johnson of Godfrey; fourteen grandchildren, Wendie Peipert, Nick Cain and his wife, Kendall, Tony Cain and his wife, Katie, David Strebel and his wife, Jen, Abbie Hodge and her husband, Dustin, Matt Cain, Jason Peipert, Monica Hardin and her husband, Jeff, Savanna Durr, Jett Durr, Posy Durr, Alex Basler, Nash Johnson, and Noah Johnson; five great grandchildren, Audrey & Caroline Cain, Evan Dugger, Max Strebel, and Austin Hodge; and one sister, Dorothy Kleinschnittger of Godfrey. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Gregory Peipert.

In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm on Friday August 19, 2010 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Alton where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am Saturday August 20, 2010.

Burial will follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Godfrey.

Memorials may be made to Crisis Food Center or Senior Citizen’s Plus.
