Robert Schaffner

Robert I. Schaffner, 69, passed away at 5:59 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2018 at his home.He was born on May 28, 1948 in Grand River, KY, the son of Adam and the late Mildred (Davis) Schaffner-Eichler. Robert and his family then moved to Shade Side, MD.Robert was a volunteer firefighter prior to enlisting. He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and Agent Orange. Robert was employed by the City of Alton for many years. Robert is survived by two siblings, Vernon “Reds” R. (June) Schaffner of Stevensville, MD and Susan A. (Jeff) Staley of Calhoun, IL.In addition to his mother he is preceded in death by two brothers, George E. Schaffner-Eichler and Howard O. Schaffner-Eichler and a niece, Sonia M. (Douglas) Crawford.Military Rites will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey.Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.An online guestbook may be found online at www.eliaskallalandschaaf.com
