Robert Hanneken

Kane |

Robert William "Bob" Hanneken, 79, died suddenly at 3:30 a.m., Friday, April 11, 2025 at Jersey Community Hospital in Jerseyville.

He was born in Saint Louis, Missouri on January 26, 1946, the youngest of two children born to William and Minnie (Brodbeck) Hanneken.

As a young boy, his family moved to the family farm east of Kane, where he was raised alongside his sister, learning early on the value of hard work, dedication, honesty, and commitment to family.

He graduated in 1964 from Jersey Community High School in Jerseyville, and married the love of his life, Roberta "Bobbie" Frost on December 11, 1965 at the State Street Baptist Church in Jerseyville. Together, they have been blessed with 59 years of marriage, enjoying raising their two children, traveling throughout the country and Canada, instilling in their children and grandchildren that through the ups and downs of life, love is the bond that withstands all.

He was employed as a rural mail carrier through the Carrollton and Kane Post Offices for nearly 30 years, but farming was his passion. As a young man, he was blessed to be able to farm alongside his father,  and continued to do so up until the day of his passing. He enjoyed tending to his cattle and tinkering in the farm shop, as he was well known to be able to fix anything in front of him. He was a man of many trades, and he truly loved everybody. He had a contagious smile and laugh, and could talk with anybody.

More than anything, Bob was a dedicated family man. He loved his family fiercely, and they returned that same love back to him. He was supportive, compassionate, and when the grandchildren came into his life, he easily found more love to give. He supported them in their endeavors, accomplishments and didn't miss an event, and traveled all over to attend soccer games, regardless of the weather.

Whether it was through his work at the post office, as Captain of the Kane Fire Department, or just a simple, genuine conversation, Bob was invested in his community and the friendships he developed throughout the years.

Surviving are his wife, Bobbie Hanneken of Kane; a son and daughter in-law, Robert Jonathan and Latasha Hanneken of Kane; a daughter and son in-law, Rebecca and Brian Bohannon of Jerseyville;  Seven Grandchildren and their spouses, Cody and Blaine Hanneken of Fieldon, Dominick Smith and  Alesha Smith of Kane, Tate and Jennifer Bohannon of Bethalto, Alli and Ryan Herkert, Maci Bohannon, and her companion, Trenton Decker and Molli Bohannon all of Jerseyville; three great grandchildren, Willliam, Hannah and Liam; and a sister, Barbara Krause of Carrollton.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother in-law, Darrell Krause.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2025 at Crawford Funeral Home in Jerseyville.
