Robert H. “Pappy” Lindley, Sr., 88, passed away at 9:40 a.m. Sunday, May 1, 2011 at St. Anthony’s Hospital.
Born Dec. 16, 1922 in Alton, he was a son of Harry and Martha Lindley.
He married Mary Ann McNeilly in Edwardsville on June 4, 1946. She passed away Nov. 1, 1993. His current wife, Cleda Lindley, survives in Sentinel, Okla.
He worked at B & J Auto Supply, Wood River, Lindbergh Automotive, Ackrit Auto Parts and St. Louis Automotive, and as a counterman for Carquest Auto parts in Wood River, retiring in 2001. The Air Force veteran of World War II was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post #794 and the Wood River VFW, Post # 2859.
Other survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Janet and Don Hoffman of University Park, Fla.; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert H. Lindley Jr. and his wife Carla of Bethalto; 3 grandchildren, Stephanie burgess, Ryan Edward Lindley, and Mathew Robert Lindley; 2 brothers, Dale Lindley and his wife Peggy and Kenny Lindley, all of California; and two stepdaughters, Stacy and Amanda Wilson, both of Sentinel, Okla.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers.
Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 4 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 5.
Burial will be at Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Glen Carbon.
