Robert H. "Bob" Allison, 90, passed away at 3:05am on Thursday, June 9, 2011, at his residence. He was born on January 23, 1921, in Bismarck, Illinois the son of the late Franklin Valentine and Pearl (Taylor) Allison. He married the former Mildred Marie Winn on January 1, 1943, in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and she survives. Other survivors include two sons and daughters in law: Winn Owen and Sondra Allison of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Mark and Nancy Allison of Moro, Illinois, four grandchildren: Greg Allison and his wife: Pam of Vashon, Washington, Kent Allison and his wife: Katie of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, Jessica Swanson and her husband: Nathanael of Falls Church, Virginia, and Sarah Allison of Washington, DC, two great grandchildren: Sean Phillip Allison and Erin Paige Allison both of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, one sister: Grace Hoskins of Herrin, Illinois, one nephew and his wife: Floyd Lee and Janie Hoskins of Houghton, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his parents and on brother: Franklin Allison.
He graduated from West Lebanon, Indiana High School and attended Olivet Nazarene College. He served as a T/SGT in the Army Air-Corp in the Asiatic - Pacific Theater during World War II and was awarded the Bronze Battle Star. He was employed with the Illinois Terminal Railroad which later became the Norfolk & Western working in Danville, Peoria, and Alton as an engineer for over 37 years prior to his retirement. He attended the Roxana Church of the Nazarene. He was an founding member of the Moro Improvement Association, Moro Water and Sewer District, a former longtime member of the Edwardsville Moose Lodge and a member of the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen. He spent 22 of his retirement winters in St. Petersburg, Florida with his wife of 68 years. He was an avid gardener, collector of unusual items, a dedicated mushroom hunter, and a classically trained violinist.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 1:30pm until time of funeral services at 3pm on Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River. Chaplain Winn Allison and Rev. Dr. Larry Lacher will officiate. Burial will follow at Moro Cemetery in Moro, Illinois.
Memorials are suggested to the Roxana Church of the Nazarene or to the Lewis and Clark Habitat for Humanity, Wood River Chapter.
