Robert E. Stanton, Sr.

Robert E. Stanton Sr., 82, passed away at 12:15 pm Saturday, August 20, 2011 at Blu-Fountain Manor with his family by his side.

He was born on November 5, 1928 in Reevesville, IL the son of George David and Elzora (Malone) Stanton.

He married Rickey Clary on June 4, 1947 in Hartford, IL.

Robert worked as a truck driver for Trans Petro Trucking for 37 years and was a volunteer fireman for the Hartford Fire Department. Throughout his life he enjoyed fishing and had a heart for his church, Abundant Life Community Church, where he was head usher and helped out with the Men’s Prayer Breakfast. He loved his family and opened their home to many.

He is survived by two children and their spouses, Robert Eugene Jr. and Colleen Stanton of Godfrey and Robin and Steven Karlas of Godfrey; four grandchildren and their spouses, Aaron and Diane Karlas, Nathan and Kellie Karlas, Jacob and Liz Wells and David and Angie Clark; eight great grandchildren, Zach, Josh, Grant, Luke, Olivia, J.R., Emma, and Brady; one brother and his spouse, Jim and Linda Stanton of Shiloh, IL and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister, Tina Miller, two brothers, Gerald and Louie Stanton, an infant daughter, and a great granddaughter, Paige.

In celebration of his life a funeral service will be held at 10 am Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Abundant Life Community Church with Pastor Roy Rhodes officiating. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens. Military Rites will be performed by Alton VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Abundant Life Community Church Youth Missions Fund, 3986 Humbert Road, Alton IL, 62002.
