Robert E. "Gilly" Gilmour, 82, passed away at 9:30am on Friday, April 13, 2012, at his residence. He was born on May 28, 1929, in Sesser, Illinois the son of the late William and Vivian (Keller) Gilmour. He married the former Nora M. Ray on May 29, 1954, in Mississippi and she survives. Other survivors include two daughters and sons in law: Cheryl and Randy Bishop of Wood River, Illinois, Karen and Mitch Keller of Bethalto, five grandchildren: Joel Bishop of Gulfport, Mississippi, Katie Bishop of St. Louis, Ashley Babcock of St. Louis, Tyler Babcock of St. Louis, Rachel Keller of Bethalto, one great grandson: Jordan Bishop of Gulfport, Mississippi, and several nieces and nephews.
He was formerly employed at Laclede Steel as a foreman in the warehouse for over 30 years prior to his retirement. He enjoyed fishing and hunting with his bird dogs. In his later years, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Rend Lake. He was a member of the East Alton American Legion Post #794. He was a former member of the Wood River Moose #1359. He was veteran of the United States Army where he was a paratrooper.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and three sisters: Bette Hill, Shirley Fischer, and Pat Ogrey.
In celebration of his life, memorial visitation will be from 4pm to 7pm on Tuesday, April 17, 2012, at Pitchford Funeral Home in Wood River.
