Robert Cain

Jerseyville |

Robert Gene “Bob” Cain, 85, passed away peacefully at 9:43 p.m., Tuesday, December 5, 2023 at his home in Jerseyville.

He was born in Mineral Point, Missouri on April 19, 1938, one of nine children born to the late Archie and Lorene (DeClue) Cain.

Bob served our country with United States Navy and returned home following his honorable discharge.

He married the former Barbara Woodring on November 12, 1965 in Missouri and together their 58 years of marriage was blessed with two children and the joys that came with their grandchildren and great grandchildren that followed.

Growing up as a part of a large family, Bob learned early on the values of hard work and commitment to family.

He held various jobs throughout his life, mainly in the mechanical and carpentry fields, and ultimately retired as a Bus Driver with Jersey Community Unit School District #100.

Bob enjoyed reading and spending time outdoors, tending to his yard and maintaining his vast garden, as well as creating many memories with his family camping and fishing.

A “jack of all trades”, there was nothing that Bob couldn’t accomplish if he set his mind to it. He enjoyed working alongside his brother, Webb, with carpentry projects and saw it as a personal challenge to fix anything that was broken. Of course, this pertained to mechanical things, but it was also a trait that whether he knew it or not, he exemplified each and every day of his life. He was devout in his faith, and a longtime member of LifechurchX (formerly Charity Christian Center) and could always be counted on to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

Surviving are his wife, Barb Cain of Jerseyville; a daughter and son in-law, Crystal and Alan Chatmon of Ballwin, Missouri; a son and daughter in-law, James and Vicki Weller of Jerseyville; seven grandchildren, Matthew Greenwood, Tyler Greenwood, Vanessa (CJ) Gentile, Leslie (Aaron)  Martinez, Jamie (Daniel) Behringer, Samantha (Rick) Kallal and Victor Weller; five great grandchildren, Jackson, Scarlett, Danielle, Eleanor and Maddox; 2 sisters and a brother in-law, Rose Chapman of Fieldon, Barbara and Lenny Travers of Fieldon; three brothers and sisters in-law, Charles and Wanda Cain of Milton, Georgia, Glenn and Anna Cain of Jerseyville and Rev. Wilbur and Barbara Cain of Jerseyville; a brother in-law, Norman Baker of Titusville, Florida; along with a host of nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and brothers in-law, Dorothy and Carl Dunham, Geraldine and Loren “Clifford” Daniels and Erma Baker; as well as a brother in-law, David Chapman.

Memorial Visitation will be held from 1 p.m. until time of Memorial Service at 2 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2023 at LifechurchX in Jerseyville, with his brother, Rev. Wilbur Cain officiating.

Military honors will be conducted at the church by the Jerseyville American Legion Post #492 Color Guard, followed by a memorial luncheon.

In lieu of flowers or plants, memorials may be given to Diane’s Food Pantry in care of Crawford Funeral Home, 1308 State Highway 109, Jerseyville, IL 62052, who is assisting the family with arrangements.
