Robert James Burnett, age 82, of Mascoutah IL, has gone home to be with the Lord. He passed away on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Alton Memorial Hospital, Alton, IL.
Robert was born on November 30, 1942, in Rock Springs, WY, the son of Herbert Lloyd and Elizabeth Anne, nee Hill, Burnett.
Robert married the love of his life for 45 years, Sharon B. Brown, on November 10, 1962.
They went on to have three children; two sons, James Robert Burnett and Darren Ryan Burnett, plus a daughter, Diana Cherie Burnett.
Robert proudly served his country in the United States army for nearly 13 years overseas then state side.
He worked as a coal miner then became a security guard at Peerless Premier where he later retired.
Robert was known for his generosity, always helping and putting others before himself. Mr. Burnett enjoyed fishing camping and just the great outdoors. Traveling, watching wrestling with his son and grandson, and visiting his family and friends. Robert was proud of his boys and the men they became.
Robert was a member Mascoutah Baptist Church where he enjoyed the services and the fellowships.
Surviving are his two sons, James and Darren Burnett; two grandsons, Joseph and Eric Burnett (Brandi); two great-grandchildren, Braydon and Destiny Burnett; his brother (last man standing), H Leroy Burnett (Irma); a sister-in-law, Susan Burnett; and many nieces and nephews who he had great memories of.
Proceeding him in death are his parents, Herbert Lloyd and Elizabeth Anne Hill Burnett; his wife, Sharon; a daughter, Deanna; two sisters, Alberta Woodside (Dale) & Arlene Hackworth; four brothers, Roger (Beverly), Roy, Eddie, & David; one niece, Dawn; and two nephews, little Roy and Brian Burnett.
Visitation: Friends may visit from 4 to 5 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.
Funeral: Funeral Services will be held at 5 p.m. Friday, December 13, 2024, at George Renner & Sons Funeral Home, Belleville, IL.
Burial with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, December 14, 2024, at Mueller Hill Cemetery, Pinckneyville, IL.
