Robert “Bob” “Grouch” Brueggeman, 82, of Plainview, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, at his home.
He was born on September 9, 1942, in Carlinville, the son of the late Ralph and Hermina (Schaffer) Brueggeman.
Bob met his future wife at 5 years old: his neighbor Sandy Rutherford. They were married on June 9, 1962 in Shipman. They moved to Polk Township in 1968, where they built a long, contented life together.
They raised a family and farmed together there for the next 57 years. Grouch was a lifelong farmer who had a love for two cylinder John Deere’s and raising crops in Macoupin Creek bottoms. He also spent many years driving a truck, raising hogs and cattle.
He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Shipman.
Bob is survived by his wife, Sandy; two children Margie (Mike) Foster and Russell “Bud” (Michelle) Brueggeman both of Plainview; two grandchildren Riley Brueggeman (Kayla Smalter) of Carlinville, and Kylie (Devin) James of Sikeston; two great grandchildren Peyton and Kadin James; and sister-in-law Verna Robinson of Shipman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Hermina; siblings Gene Brueggeman, Helen “Susie” Brueggeman, Mary Pittman, and two infant brothers.
Graveside services will be held at 3 pm on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Shipman Cemetery. All friends and family are invited to gather after the service at Bud & Michelle’s home in the shop. Bring a lawn chair, and join them for a meal and memories.
Anderson Family Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
Memorials may be made to Macoupin County Center for the Developmentally Disabled (MCDD), a place that his mother helped start, and where his sister attended for most of her life.
