Robert Boston

Bethalto |

Robert "Beany" A. Boston, 74, passed away at 10:49 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2024, at home surrounded by his family after a very brief illness.

He was born on February 3, 1950, in Litchfield, IL to Anton I. and Helen E. (Sohovich) Boston.

He married Gloria Hamilton on October 11, 1980, in Alton. She survives.

Beany retired from the Local #90 as a concrete mason. He was a veteran of the United States Army, fighting for our country in the Vietnam War. He was an active member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, as well as the Alton Moose, Edwardsville American Legion Post 199, Alton-Wood River Sportsman's Club, and Woodlands Golf Course. Beany enjoyed golfing, attending his kid's and grandkid's sporting events and spending time with his family. He devoted many hours of his life helping friends and family with construction projects. Although he spent the majority of his life as a dedicated mason, in his retirement years he found pleasure in operating his tractor, finding countless opportunities to run his lift and embracing his inner truck driver hauling loads in his international dump truck.

Along with his wife, Beany is survived by his children, Jayme (Jose) Silva of Bethalto, Betsy Sitzes of Alton, Toni (Nick) Sutton of Godfrey, Laura (Mark) Harman of Fosterburg, and Joe (Brenda) Boston of Fosterburg; sister, Martha (Denis) Boston of Maryville; brother, Phil (Terri) Boston of Staunton; 15 grandchildren, Alyssa Montano, Manny Silva, Myles Silva, Mariana Silva, Brooke Boston, Jordyn Boston, Taylor Boston, Dagan Boston, Olivia Smith, Spencer Sutton, Cooper Sutton, Cora Harman, Della Harman, Winnie Harman and Foster Harman; and several nieces, nephews, and friends that adored him.

Along with his parents, Beany was preceded in death by his nephew, Brian Boston, and his in-laws, Whitey and Norma Hamilton.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Homes in Bethalto.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, August 16, 2024, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Alton, with Father Chris Uhl, OMV officiating. Burial will follow at Fosterburg Cemetery. The Edwardsville American Legion Post 199 will be doing a military salute at the graveside.

Memorials are suggested to the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight and/or St. Mary's School or Church.
