Robert “Bob” Stanley Edwards, 82, went to be with the Lord at 2:10 p.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at Rosewood Care Center in Alton. He was born April 24, 1928 in Hiseville, KY, the son of the late Edward Stanley and Goldie Mary Edwards.
He married Mary Elizabeth (Fulks) on September 14, 1947 at the First Methodist Church in Brinkley, AR. She survives. After graduating from Alton Senior High School, Bob and his father started a co-ownership business, E.S. Edwards & Son, Inc. General Contractors, building commercial projects in the River Bend area. Bob also started a co-partnership window replacement business, Midwest Windows, Inc., with O. Fred Green, which covered projects in several states. Bob was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Alton. He enjoyed many outdoor activities, including flying his plane, boating, hunting, golf, and spending time with his family, friends, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandson.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Dr. R. Steven and Dr. Lana Barnett Edwards of Alton, one daughter and son-in-law, Jayne and Don Hellrung of Alton, three grandchildren, Jason and Jana Mathus, Jill Carrier and her husband Chris, and one great grandson, Colton Carrier.
Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday.
Burial will be at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
Reverend Andre’ Dobson will officiate.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Hospice, Calvary Baptist Church or the American Cancer Society.
