Robert Moon

Robert B. Moon 89, of Rosewood Heights passed away Tuesday February 14, 2017 at his home with his family at his side.  He was born March 23, 1927 in Gillespie, IL to David Marshall and Pearl Ethel (Culp) Moon. He married Sylvia F. Wolff April, 30, 1949 in Gillespie; she preceded him in death April 25, 2008.

He was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights, for over 50 years.  He sang in choir and was a member of Sweets Sounds.  Bob was an Engineering Specialist and worked for 32 years at Shell Oil Refinery, retiring in 1989.  He was a past Member of the Moose and continued to enjoy meeting there with the Shell Oil Retirement Group.  He was a Veteran of the United States Navy and served during WWII.  In December he took the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. 

Bob is survived by two daughters and sons in law, Linda D. (Dennis) Ford of Jerseyville and Laura A. (Dwight) Tungett of Bethalto; three grandchildren and their spouses, Christa (Kyle) Kelly, Stephen (Yasmina) Tungett and Bethany (Brett) Wassink and two great grandchildren, Addison and Brenley Kelly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife; grandson, Brian Robert Ford; brother, Clifford Moon and sister, Vera Smith.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2017 at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Rosewood Heights.  Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church until service at 10:30 a.m.  Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto where VFW Post 1308 Ritual Team will provide military honors.  Paynic Home for Funeral entrusted with professional services.

Bob was a devoted Christian, who believed in hard work.  Honesty and integrity were his hallmarks. He was also a loving father and grandfather.
