 Robert Alan McAfoos, 66, passed away peacefully at 11:48 a.m., Saturday February 11, 2012 at his home with his family by his side. He was born in Alton on December 11, 1945 the son of the late Herbert and Lucille "Cole" McAfoos. Alan proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the purple heart after being wounded in combat. After returning home, Alan operated McAfoos Shell for many years. Alan married Susan Block on March 20, 1982 in Alton and she survives. He then worked for Blocks Inc. until retirement. Alan was a very proud father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family more than anything. He enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and the St. Louis Cardinals. He loved to barbecue and attend auctions. His "McAfoos" creativity showed in his hobbies of carving, refinishing furniture, and flea marketing. He also spent a lot of time with old classmates and veterans.In addition to his wife Suzy, he is survived by a son, David Place of Chicago, three daughters, TriciaMcAfoos of Alton, Ali and her husband Travis Tarrant of Alton, Ashley McAfoos of Alton, two grandchildren Olivia and Jacob McAfoos and one grandchild on the way, three sisters Denise "Cecil" Turner of Bunker Hill, Sue LaMarsh of Fruita, CO, Lauren "Thomas" Miller of Godfrey, four brothers Bill "Pat" McAfoos of Davenport IO, Dwight "Anita" McAfoos of Alton, Stan "Millicent" McAfoos of Alton, Wendell "Barb" McAfoos of Alton and numerous nieces and nephews.In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Ollie McAfoos.In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 8pm Tuesday February 14, 2012 at Elias Kallal and Schaaf funeral home in Alton, IL.Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday February 15, 2012 at Main St Methodist Church in Alton with Rev. Jame Haus officiating.Burial will follow at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St Louis at 2 pm.Memorials may be directed to the National Alopecia Areata Foundation and/or the Disabled American Veterans.Elias Kallal and Schaaf funeral home in Alton are in charge of arrangements.Online condolences and guest book may be found at
