Rita M. Carter, 74, formerly of Wood River, passed away at 7:10 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Hitz Memorial Home in Alhambra.

Born July 29, 1936 in Alton, she was the daughter of Herbert L. and Theresa (Hertz) Bramlet.

She married Louis E. Carter Oct. 26, 1955 in East Alton. He passed away in 1982.

A police dispatcher, she worked for the East Alton and Wood River Police Departments for 30 years until her retirement in 1996.

She was a member of the Wood River D. of I.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Cindy and Randy Wells and Donna and Brian Ewing, all of Bethalto; 6 grandchildren, Phillip Bush and his wife Amanda, Jay Morley, Deann Bush, Bradley Wells and his wife Ashley, Sydnie Yates and Zoey Ewing; and two great grandchildren, Carter and Randy Bush.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Randy Bush; a grandson, Matthew Bush; and two brothers, Charles Bramlet and Francis Allison.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29 at Paynic Home for Funerals in Rosewood Heights, where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 30.

Interment will follow at Carter Cemetery near Carrollton.
