Richard Slimick

Richard Paul Slimick, 91, of Alton, passed away at 1:28 p.m. Monday, February 3, 2025 at his residence.

He was born in Coal Fork, West Virginia on June 17, 1933 to George Alfred and Malinda Thelma (Honaker)Slimick.

He attended Charleston High School in West Virginia in 1952. Richard moved to Alton, IL and worked at Owen’s Glass Company.  He later went to work at Olin Corporation of East Alton in 1953 where he worked as a Chief Anneal Operator in the Brass Mill retiring in 1997.

Richard married the former Shirley M. Wood on April 17, 1954 and celebrated 70 years of marriage. Together they had one daughter Kathy, who he adored.

He belonged to Franklin Masonic Lodge 25 AFAM in Alton for 53 years where he was the Past Master of the lodge. Richard being a collector of model trains, along with the help of Shirley and special friends, had train show fundraisers for 18 years at the lodge.

Richard was proud of his granddaughter, Ashleigh and her husband Adam and he loved his great grandsons Jackson and Tucker.

He is survived by his wife Shirley of Alton; granddaughter Ashleigh Dixon and her husband Adam of Georgia; great-grandsons, Jackson (6) and Tucker (2); Brother, Thomas Slimick and many nieces, nephews and a special caregiver, his nephew Darrell Slimick and wife Judy.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter Kathy Sue (Slimick) Hawkins; two brothers, Charles Slimick and Robert Slimick; one nephew, Terry Slimick.

Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. until service time at 12 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 at Gray Funeral Home in Wood River. Mayor Reverend David Goins will be Officiating.

Franklin Masonic Lodge 25 AFAM will take part in the service with Masonic Rites.

Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.

He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
