Richard Lee Wilson, 81, passed away 8:15 a.m. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
Born in White County, IL on January 1, 1935, he was the son of Rupert Lee Wilson and Wilma (Shrum) Smith.
He was employed as a maintenance electrician for Laclede Steel for 42 years before retiring in 1996.
Richard enjoyed restoring "Street Rods", quail hunting, Cardinal baseball, but mostly, anything his grandchildren were doing, from school events, to concerts and baseball games. He was an active member of 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River, serving as trustee and choir member for many years; as well as, a member of the local "Habitat For Humanity" organization.
On June 18, 1954 in McLeansboro, he married the former Nana Whipple. She survives.
Surviving also are two sons, Ronald (Debbie) Wilson of Creve Coeur, MO, Mark Wilson of Collinsville; two grandchildren, Caitlin Wilson (John Corradini), Spencer Wilson; sister, Pamela (Michael) Cloutier of Collinsville; brother-in-law, Gary (Sharon) Whipple; sister-in-law, Katherine Whipple; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, John and Gary Schaffer.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will begin with a visitation from 9:30 a.m until service time at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 16 at the 1st United Methodist Church in Wood River. Pastor Kimberly Allen will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Dahlgren I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the church or Siteman Cancer Center.
