Richard J. Townsend 64 passed away at 11 am Wednesday January 25, 2012 at home with his family by his side.
He was born on March 20, 1947 in West Alton, MO the son of the late Alfred D. & Gladys C (Connoyer) Townsend.
He worked on the assembly line at the Hussmann Corperation retiring in September 2009. He sponsored six children from St Jude’s Children Hospital in St. Louis and enjoyed receiving letters from them. He never had children himself so he consider these as his kids.
He is survived by four sisters Geraldine and husband Leon Foeller of Florissant, MO, Gloria and husband Gary Badalato of AZ, Gail Vaughan of Fort Worth, TX, Betty and husband Frank Coffman of Granite City, IL, four brothers Virgil Townsend of Moro, IL, Melvin Townsend of East Alton, Edward Townsend, of West Alton, MO Leonard Townsend of St. Louis, MO and numerous Nieces and Nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother Eugene Townsend.
Visitation will be Sunday, January 29, 2012 from 1 pm to 4 pm at Staten Fine Funeral Home in Alton. A visitation will be at the Immaculate Conception Church in West Alton, MO Monday January 30, 2012 from 9 am until the time of Mass at 10 am with Father Robert Banken officiating.
Burial will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in West Alton, MO.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital in St. Louis, MO.
