Richard A. Holtorf, 84 of Dorchester Illinois passed away peacefully at Gillespie Health and Rehab Center surrounded by his loving family.
He was born to Maggie (Lilly) Holtorf and Robert Holtorf in Bayless Illinois.
Richard lived a life full of hard work, kindness, and dedication to his family and friends. Richard was first married to Mary Lahr, with whom he was blessed with two children: Allen Holtorf of Brighton IL and Tracy (Holtorf) Pinkston (Bob) of Benld, IL.
Later Richard married Linda (whom survives), his beloved wife of 29 years, and became a devoted step father to: Amy Furkin (John) of Gillespie, IL, Brenda (Frensco) Schehl (Edward) of Mt.Olive IL, Wesley Ray Zumwalt II (Margaret) of Wilsonville, IL, Brian A. Zumwalt (deceased).
He was a proud grandfather and great grandfather to many who cherished every moment spent with his family. He was blessed with numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.
Richard was proceeded in death by his parents, his brothers John (Arnold) Holtorf, and George Holtorf, his sister Margaret Sloan, and loved ones Leo Smith, Nancy Holtorf, Brian Zumwalt, and Desiree Pinkston.
He is survived by his siblings Connie Smith of Gillespie, IL and Daniel Holtorf (Bonnie) of Jerseyville, IL.
Throughout his life Richard dedicated himself to learning and working in various trades. He was employed at Heyen's Implement, Shipman Elevator, Lociara Ford Garage, Glass Works, and worked in homes building before retiring from D & A Corvette. He enjoyed driving the Old Antique Fire Truck during the Dorchester parade for many years. His skills, strong work ethic, and willingness to lend a hand made him well respected in his field.
Beyond work, Richard found joy in repairing vehicles, remodeling homes, and spending time outdoors. He was a member of the Moose Club, and the Tri-County Gun Club. He loved country living, taking scenic drives with Linda and tending to their property and garden.
Above all, Richard will be remembered for his generosity, kindness, and the love he showed to those close to him.
Services to honor Richard's life will be held at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie on Friday April 4th 2025.
Public visitation will be from 10:30 am - 11:30 am with the funeral service at 11:30 am.
Memorial suggestions are set for Dorchester Fire Department.
