Richard H. Parker, 86, died at 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Alton Memorial Hospital. Born August 13, 1925 in Chicago, he was the son of Herbert V. and Gladys (Johnson) Short Parker. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and was a member of the Evangelical United Church of Christ. He retired as a baker from Wonder Bread in Chicago. He married the former Peggy R. Chappell on October 4, 1946 in Alton. She survives. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, June 1, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012. Reverend Mike Southcombe will officiate. Burial will be at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Evangelical United Church of Christ or the Shriners Hospitals for Children.
