Richard C. Layman, 68, passed away at 1 pm Friday November 9, 2012 at his residence with his family by his side.
He was born July 17, 1944 in Gary Indiana to the late Russell and Elvira (Keray) Layman.
He married Jeanette Ford Walden on September 17, 1989 in Alton, IL, she survives.
Richard served his country in the U.S.Navy During the Viet Nam Era. He was employed as a machine operator at the Shell Oil Company in South Roxana, where he retired after 30 yrs. He was an active member of the Alton VFW Post 1308.
In addition to his wife Jeanette, he is survived by four daughters; Dawn Layman of TX, Debra Layman of TX, Jennifer and her spouse Rodney Miller of E. Alton, Cindi and her spouse Randy Rieke of Hillsboro, Il. Two sons; Kristoffer and his spouse Lisa Walden of Donnelson, IL. and Adam Walden of Medora, IL. twenty one grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, and three brothers and their spouses; Frank and Karen Layman of Pocotello, ID, Bob and Mary Layman of Silt, CO, and Marvin Layman of Rifle, CO. A beloved son-in-law Steve Winson and his spouse Jennifer, and a daughter-in-law Heather Bock of Godfrey.
Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be from 4 pm to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL.
Funeral service will be at 10 am Wednesday November 14, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Godfrey, IL with Rev Randy Butler officiating.
Per his wishes, cremation rites will follow.
