Richard Cannon

Richard A. Cannon, 79, passed away at 11:25 am Thursday February 3, 2011 at Robings Manor Nursing Home in Brighton.

He was born on February 16, 1931 in Coffeen, IL, the son of Roy & Grace K. (Donaldson) Cannon.

He married Neil K. Wilhelm on July 14, 1956 at the First Baptist Church in Upper Alton.

He was a US Navy Veteran and served in the Korean Conflict.  He was stationed on the USS Salsbury Sound which is a sea plane tender as a machinist mate.  He worked for Owen’s Illinois Glass as a machinist for 41 years and retired in 1992 and was a member of the Golden Emblem Club with Owens Illinois Glass.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family and friends. 

In addition to his wife, Neil Cannon;  he is also survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James & Brenda Cannon of Brighton and David & Stephanie Cannon of Jacksonville, IL;  a daughter and son-in-law, Janet & Henry Hoehn of Godfrey, and six grandchildren and spouse,  Jake & Ginny Cannon, Matt & Emily Cannon, Danielle & Larry Linville, Lisa Malson, Denise & Todd Vaughan, and Eric Hoehn, eleven great grandchildren, Gennasee, Deklan and Wyatt Cannon, Victoria Skelton, Jordan & Donny Linville, Tristan Malson, Quinten and Abigail Hoehn, Samantha and Maxwell Hoehn; five siblings, Doris Anderson, Grace Giddings, Bill Cannon,  and James Cannon, all of Wood River, and Laurel Cannon of Norwalk, OH.

He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 9 am until time of memorial services at 11 am Tuesday February 8, 2011 at Staten-Fine Funeral Home in Alton with Rev. Jeremy Woods officiating.

Inurnment will be at Alton City Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Anthony’s Hospice.
