Raymond Bonnell

Raymond F. Bonnell, 80, died at 4:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at St. Anthony’s Health Center in Alton. Born June 16, 1933 in Alton, he was the son of Raymond and Pearl (Neuhaus) Bonnell. Mr. Bonnell was a member of the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey and served in the U.S. Army. He retired from Jefferson Smurfit in 1995 as an industrial relations manager after 44 years of service. He loved singing, and playing piano and baritone. On January 10, 1953 he married the former Sara Ann “Sally” Schlobohm. They were married for 51 years and raised six children together. Sally preceded him in death on July 30, 2004. He later married Donna Mae (Freeman) Burnett on March 25, 2006. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2012. Surviving are his six children, Michelle Fleisher and her husband Rich of Knoxville, IL, Cindy Bonnell and her friend Bobby Baron of Alton, Doug Bonnell and his wife Terri of Larkspur, CO, Kim Bilbruck and her husband Rusty of Gillespie, Tim Bonnell and his wife Jenny of Alton, and Jennifer Hamlin and her husband Dave of Gillette, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren, Amy Larson (Greg), Andrew Fleisher (Beth), Levi Bonnell, Luke Bonnell (Bre), Dustin Bilbruck (Jacque), Jacob Bilbruck (Jill), Danielle Bonnell, LeAnne Bonnell, Aaron Bonnell, Baylee Hamlin, and Breckyn Hamlin; seven great-grandchildren, Anna Larson, Bryar Fleisher, Garrett Larson, Emersyn Fleisher, Cooper Bilbruck, Greyson Bilbruck, and Blaine Bilbruck; one sister, Janice Flores of El Paso, TX, and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Bonnell of Springfield, OH. Also surviving are two step-children, Lynne Burnett (Robyne Omara) of Godfrey, and Claudia Burnett (Michael Gallant) of Surf City, NC. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Clinton Bonnell. Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Friday, March 14, 2014 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, March 15, 2014 at the Resurrection Lutheran Church in Godfrey. Reverend Kenneth Tegtmeier will officiate. Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Resurrection Lutheran Church or the Lewis & Clark Community College Music Department.
