Ralph W. Oneal Jr., 74, went to be with the Lord at 7:36 am on Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Barnes Jewish Hospital with his family by his side.
He was born on June 15, 1938 in Carrier Mills, IL, the son of Ralph W. and Lela (Pankey) Oneal Sr.
He married Dirla S. Dobrey in Corinth, Mississippi on December 23, 1957. She passed away on January 28, 2009.
Ralph was a foreman at Owens Illinois Glass for over 30 years, retiring in 1993. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Bethalto where he served as a deacon and on the kitchen, flower and banner and finance committees. He loved his church, Sunday School class, golfing, spending winters in Bradenton, FL and traveling in his RV. He also enjoyed traveling to South Dakota and Louisiana for Mission trips. Most of all he loved spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Gregg & Michelle Oneal of O’Fallon, IL; a daughter and son-in-law, Susan & Mick Madison of Bethalto; seven grandchildren, Aaron and Erin Oneal, Katie and Cole McCollum, Callie, Amy & Andrew (AJ) Oneal and Brent & Derek Madison; three great grandchildren, Nora, Avie and Levi; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Robert and Donna “Joan” Oneal of Harrisburg, IL, Ronald Oneal of Rosewood Heights and Donnie and Margaret Oneal of Murphysboro, TN; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Dwan Ledford of Marion, IL, Margaret Joan Orman of Alton and Linda Moore of Springfield, IL and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Earl “Wendell” Oneal and a sister, Mary McGhee.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Friday, September 21, 2012 at Elias, Kallal and Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday at the First Baptist Church of Bethalto with Pastor Chris Funkhouser and Pastor Larry Rhodes officiating.
Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto.
