R. Alberta Lynn

R. Alberta Lynn passed away peacefully at 8:25 a.m. Thursday, February 16, 2012 at Rosewood Care Center in Alton.  She was born in Alton on October 8, 1920, the first daughter of C. Bert and Ruth (Whittleman) Ritchey.  Alberta married her high school sweetheart, Frank E. Lynn, at her parent’s home in Godfrey on August 18, 1940. He preceded her in death on May 22, 1975. Also preceding her in death were her parents, a son Gary E. Lynn, a grandson Bradley E. Lynn and a sister Juanita Adams.  She always told her family that she had a good life with a wonderful husband, three great kids, 7 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Her children are Lonna and Jerry Norman of Dow, Gary E. Lynn, deceased, and his wife Jeannie Lynn of Godfrey, and Cheryl and Ken Vondrasek of Alton.  Her grand children are Lesa and Michael Falter of Springfield, IL,  Keith and Sara Norman of Jerseyville, IL, Kevin and Laura Norman of Cape Girardeau, MO, Karen and David Walters of Godfrey, Kim and Rob Fatima of Bloomington, IL, Robin Lynn of Bethalto, and Nichole and Todd Townley of Murrieta, CA.  Alberta’s great grandchildren are Mitchell, Tori and Kali Falter, Tyler, Catherine and Sydney Norman, Matt Helle, Joshua and Nicholas Norman, Jacob and Grant Fatima, Ryan Lynn, Valerie and Nina Walters and seven day old Kayla Townley.  Alberta was a bookkeeper all of her life. She and her husband owned and operated Frank Lynn Tractor & Equipment in Alton since 1956. She was the bookkeeper full time and part time over the last 55 years of operation. She also kept books for Alton Laundry, Ritchey Home Supply and volunteered for 15 years to do the books for the Normandy Condo Association in Godfrey.  She volunteered with the Girl Scouts, at the election poles, and to sell Bonds to help get Summers Port pool built in Godfrey. She loved to travel, camp, and play cards but most of all she loved spending time with her family.  Visitation will be from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012.  Reverend George H. Humbert Jr. will officiate.  Burial will be at Valhalla Memorial Park in Godfrey.  Memorials may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or the American Cancer Society.  Online guestbook and information may be found at
